Iran’s ‘1.5 Horsepower’ wins nom at Shanghai filmfest

Iranian feature film ‘1.5 Horsepower’ has won four nominations at the 2023 Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) in China.

Rasoul Kahani has been picked as a candidate to compete for the Best Director award and Mahmoud Yavari, the producer will run for the Best Film award at the Asian New Talent program of the 25th edition of the Chinese event.

Besides, the SIFF has nominated Sorour Peyrovani for the Best Actress in a Leading Role award and the writing team of the film for the Best Screenplay award.

“When I was a child, I used to put my head on my mother's shoulders, her shoulders were very warm, I miss my mother's smell, I miss her,” a brief synopsis for ‘1.5 Horsepower’ reads.

Sorour Peyrovani, Ebrahim Azizi, Mohammad Ashkanfar and Amir Babashahabi form the cast list of the flick.

Founded in 1993, the SIFF focuses on awards, markets, forums and film exhibitions so as to build an international platform, and promote the development of the Chinese film industry.

This year’s edition of the fest is slated for June 9-18.
